Arizona State Fair
The Arizona State Fair is a fantastic, fun date. It has all the charm of a classic fair: a ferris wheel, caramel apples, and chances to win giant stuffed animals. Plus, there are wild rides, free concerts, and exotic food booths.
You can browse the livestock barn, or wander through the art gallery and flower and mineral exhibits. You can even shop in the Commercial Exhibit Hall. For a quiet date, go in the daytime. In the evening, the crowds increase and the neon lights turn on. The atmosphere becomes carnival like.
We think it adds to the fun share a giant hotdog and some cotton candy, but be warned that fair food is pricey and in no way healthy. Deep fried twinkies, anyone? If you are brave, you can sample exotic treats like scorpions on a stick.
Daily events include a petting zoo, hot dog pig racing, and a hypnotist show. There are various special events throughout the fair, such as racing, a horse show, and a demolition derby. On week-ends, check out the free concerts! We saw the B52s perform live.

Admission is $10 a person. Parking is $12 per car in the state fair lot. There are private lots all along McDowell Road with cheaper parking, but less security.
