Full Moon Hike at Spur Cross
For a fun, romantic, and adventurous date, choose a night with a full moon and plan a hike. We recommend Spur Cross trail, near Cave Creek, which has a wide, easy to follow trail, but also beautiful terrain and desert plants.
On our hike, we tried our hand at night photography and then we sat by a creek and watched the stars. The highlight of the hike came when we startled a javelina. It startled us, too!

The desert comes alive at night, and it is a great opportunity to see and hear creatures that you would not encounter during the day. It is also cooler, which makes hiking possible on the fringes of the summer season.
If you are nervous about going on your own, you can go on a ranger guided hike. These are frequently offered in Spur Cross, and other parks all around Phoenix. Admission to Spur Cross is $3 per person.
Warning: Take flashlights, water, and a map, and let someone know where you are going. It is easy to get lost in the dark so stay on marked trails.
