Phoenix First Friday Art Walk
Ladies and gentleman, how about an evening of high (or low) culture in downtown Phoenix? Look no further than the Phoenix First Friday Art Walk!
A good place to begin your evening is at the Phoenix Art Museum. Parking and admission are free from 6-10pm. The museum has a large, varied permanent collection with galleries that showcase Western art, contemporary art, and Eastern art. They also have excellent traveling exhibits.
After some quiet browsing, head right out the front doors where you can pick up a map of First Friday galleries and catch a complimentary shuttle to other art walk hotspots. Note: Due to budget contraints the shuttle will not operate during July and August in 2011. Shuttle service will resume in September.
There are several routes; pick just one for a relaxed evening or try them all if you have lots of energy! All routes stop at a variety of galleries for your art viewing pleasure. Make sure to stop at bustling Roosevelt Street for street fair style excitement. With art, bands, and booths offering everything from jewelry to politics, it offers eclectic shopping and people watching fun. (The crowds and noise may not be for everyone!)
