Nothing says "fun" like juggling, beer, and drumsticks.  Nothing says "romance" like castles and knights in shining armor.  And the perfect date to bring fun and romance together?  It is the Renaissance Festival, of course!

Every February and March, a Rennaisance themed village springs up in Apache Junction.  With thirty acres of medieval fun, 13 stages, an artisan marketplace, costumed actors, a jousting tournament, and more, there is enough to keep you entertained all day.  Choose from shows featuring everything from fiery whips and torches, to belly dancing, comedy, and juggling.

For a fee, you can try to climb Jacob's Ladder, ride an elephant, tour a dungeon, or battle to be King or Queen on a log.  If you get hungry or thirsty there are food and drinks, including alcohol, for purchase.  Most food is $5 - $8, non-alcholhic beverages are about $3, and alchohic drinks range from $5 - $8.

There are enough shows and shops to keep you occupied for an entire day.  We spent six hours at the festival and only saw a portion of everything there.   Although there is some shade and the shops and many of the shows are covered, you will be outside in the sun for much of the day.  You will also walk a lot so wear comfortable clothing and shoes.  If you want to dress the part, you can rent costumes near the ticket booth.

The Rennaisance Festival runs on weekends in February and March.  Tickets are $22.  You can buy them in advance on-line or at Fry's for a slight discount.  Parking is free.  Bring a few dollars to tip the performers.

Go to the festival website and look under "Special Events."  The festival has several discount days and sponsors who offer coupons.  It is worth a look!
