Note: Tonopah Rob sold his vegetable farm in 2016.  It is no longer open to the public.

Tonopah Rob's farm is about an hour's drive west of downtown Phoenix. On Saturdays in the fall, winter, and spring, you can stop by and purchase fresh, seasonal produce and free range eggs and chickens. If you call in advance, Tonopah Rob will give you a tour of the farm.

We went on a Saturday morning date to the vegetable stand. It was fall and at the beginnning of the produce season, so there wasn't a huge variety of vegetables at the time.  However, we purchased dates and lots of fresh peppers.  They can roast your peppers for you right on the spot!

We didn't take a grand tour, but we did wander around and look at vegetable beds and the turkeys and chickens.

This is a fascinating place for anyone interested in gardening. Tonopah Rob uses "bug confusion" as a way to control pest so there are flowers as well as vegetables scattered around the farm.

This date was interesting but we were only at the farm for about half an hour. As much as we enjoyed seeing the farm, we're not sure it is worth a long drive. We were already in the West Valley so it wasn't far out of the way for us.  However, if you are in North Phoenix or the East Valley, you may just want to visit Tonopah Rob's stand at the Stock Shops Farmer's Market or the Fountain Hills Farmer's Market.  Tonopah Rob participates is several markets around the valley. His website lists all of them along with the dates and times they are open.

The farm stand's hour vary based on the season, weather, and special events.  Do check thier website before you go to be certain they are open.

Note: We followed the directions on Tonopah Rob's website and found his farm easily. He warns you on the site that if you use Google Maps or Mapquest, you will get lost.  Also, the stand is not open during the summer months.  Definitely visit his site when you are planning your visit so you will know what produce is in season, if the stand is open, and have good directions!
