A player takes a shot Basketball lovers, sports lovers, and Suns fans- if you haven't been to a  Mercury basketball game, give it a try!     It isn't a secret that the WNBA isn't  as popular as the NBA yet, but it  offers top-notch basketball, charismatic players, and all the intesity of any great sports event.  It makes for a fun date, and you just might get hooked.  The  WNBA season runs from June-September, and Mercury's home games are played in the US Airways Center.

Our sporty date was for a Saturday game.   We chose an intense game; although Mercury took an early lead, the score quickly evened.  The game went to overtime, and ended with a one point loss.

We must admit, we got our tickets through work, and were lucky enough to sit in a suite.  If you can get tickets, this is definitely a comfortable way to watch the game, and the view of the court in good.

However, we think this would be a great date for any sports lover, even in the worse seats in the house.  You are closer to the action and you have a better chance to get a free t-shirt or lottery ticket if you sit in the main stands.

Mercury plays defenseThe huge scoreboard and TV monitors make sure that you can follow the action from any seat.  There are games, giveaways, and performaces during the breaks in the game, to keep you entertained.   There are concessions (We bought hotdogs for $3 each) and sports gear shops.

Tickets start at $13.75. As you might expect, these aren't the best seats; you will be at one end of the court, behind the backboard. Better seats in the sections near the half court line are $65.50 and up. (These prices include the taxes and fees.) Expect to pay an additional $10-$12 for parking. We like to ride the light rail, to avoid parking fees, and because we think it is fun.

Save on parking!  If you have a ticket to a US Airways event you can ride the Lightrail for FREE beginning four hours prior to the start of the event, through the end of the transit day.  The US Airways Center is on Jefferson & 1st Street.  If you are riding west, exit at the Jefferson/ 3rd St. Station and walk west along Jefferson.  If you are riding east, exit at the Washington/3rd St Station.  Walk south down 3rd Street to Jefferson Street, then turn west.
