A lighted tree an ZoolightsEvery night, from late November until early January, the zoo transforms into a sparkling wonderland.  3.6 million lights glitter in the trees, along the trails, and in giant light displays.  Music plays.  It is an enchanting setting for a romantic date.

Purchase popcorn or hot chocolate to enjoy as you stroll among the lighted trees.  Be amazed by the Music in Motion Spectacular show. Enjoy camel rides, wagon rides, or carousel rides.  (There is an extra cost for rides.)

During Zoolights, the lights are the main attraction, not the animals.  Not all of the zoo trails are open and most of the animals are in bed.  However, we saw javelina, flamingos, and a zebra.  It took about an hour and a half to walk through all the lights at a leisurely pace.  Tickets cost from $10 - $14.

Hint:  This is a popluar event.  To avoid crowds, try visiting in late November or early January.  There are fewer visitors on week days than on weekends.   Going on Monday - Thursday has an added bonus; the tickets are cheaper.  If you are a zoo member, there is special members only preview weekend at the end of November.
